Most RV insurance policies at a minimum offer basic auto insurance coverage. For instance, drivers typically obtain insurance for several different items:

– Liability
– Collision coverage
– Towing and roadside assistance
– Available comprehensive auto coverage

Additional Coverage

Since drivers sometimes reside for long periods of time in an RV, they may also seek additional specialized coverage resembling homeowners insurance to help safeguard personal items during travel. For instance, some RV insurance policies will cover these items:

Coverage for accessories, such as awnings or netting;
Vacation or travel coverage (sometimes with reference to specific destinations);
Enhanced towing coverage;
Total loss replacement coverage (typically limited to recent model recreational vehicles used as primary full-time residences).

The availability of some additional RV insurance protection varies by state. Many jurisdictions treat recreational vehicles as a specialized form of vehicle.

Policy Limitations

Recreational vehicle insurance policies typically include specified deductible amounts, as well as policy limitations (just like most other forms of insurance). Not all insurance companies offer this highly specialized form of insurance coverage.
